I decided to take my vehicle to Silverlake because of all the great Google reviews. However, I’m now wondering if the reviews are from fake accounts. Nonetheless, here is my story. I dropped off my SUV because the heat quit working one very cold morning. After Silverlake inspected my vehicle, they said I had two options. Option 1 was I could get my radiator unclogged for $300+, which Silverlake said might not actually fix my heat. The 2nd option presented to me was getting my heater core replaced for $1,000. They also said they could try to unclog the radiator for $300+, then find out it’s not possible. So, I would need to spend another $1,000 to changeout the heater core, and I would be out $1,300+ In total if I made the wrong decision. I ended up telling them that I’d call them back. Then, through a family friend, I found a very reputable mechanic in town, who asked if my vehicle was leaking radiator fluid. I said “no” and the mechanic said I did not need a heater core. The honest mechanic I found ended up flushing out my radiator for about $180, which is still way below the $300+ Silverlake was going to charge me. Since the honest mechanic worked on my vehicle about 4 months ago, my heat has been working perfectly. I really don’t appreciate automotive places who overcharge and attempt to take advantage of people. The best defense we have as consumers seems to be writing honest reviews online. So, I’m hoping I can help someone out who’s taking the time to read reviews and is looking for an honest mechanic by saying, “LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE!”
